Short Week, Division Rival, On The Road...Huge Game For The Skins To Win

Big game tonight vs the Giants up in the swamps of New Jersey. I’m on the record as hating Thursday night games. I remember an old Jerome Bettis interview where he talked about how he wouldn’t be able to get out of bed until Wednesday after games on Sunday. But yet the NFL insists on making teams play on Thursdays. I know that has nothing to do with the game tonight and it’s an even playing field for both teams, but that’s more of another fuck you Roger Goodell. Don’t act like you have player safety in mind at all times and then make teams play on 3 days rest. It’s bullshit.

Ok but back to the game. The Giants have played pretty well in their first two games. But they have blown the games and shit their pants in both games as well. First that week 1 game vs the Cowboys where they mismanaged a clock just as poorly as possible, and then last week vs the Falcons where they gave up 14 4th quarter points to Atlanta to lose 24-20. This bodes well for the Skins, who have been very steady on offense all year. If they can wear down the Giants defense with their number 1 rushing attack, they should be able to pick apart the Giants last ranked passing defense. Cousins doesn’t throw for a ton of yards, but he’ll be able to pick on them with his accuracy and high completion %.

Meanwhile the Redskins defense will have their hands full with ODB. The Skins have only allowed 164 passing yards/game, but this is their first big test. Sure the Dolphins can put up yards, and Tavon Austin is a threat that the Skins handled easily, but they don’t compare to Odell. The good news is the Gmen are only averaging 3 yards/carry, so you know they’ll be throwing a lot. It’s easier to gameplan when you know what’s coming.

I’m carefully optimistic about tonight’s game. It would be a huge division win, on the road. Would put them at 2-1 having extra rest for the Eagles at home next week. The Giants have not been easy games for the Skins in recent years, feel like we haven’t played them well at all. Blowout after blowout. Hoping for a change tonight. Steal a win up in New Jersey, be over .500 for the first time since 2012, and have a chance to move to 3-1 when Sam Bradford’s crippled ass rolls into town next week. Oh the optimism is high right now, let me just hope I get to wake up with Hail to the Redskins tomorrow morning.
