Old Guy Spends His Twilight Years Driving Rescue Dogs Around On A Tractor Train He Built

TheDoDo- Eugene Bostick may have officially retired about 15 years ago, but in some ways that was when his most impactful work began. Not long after, he embarked on a new career path of sorts — as a train conductor for rescued stray dogs. The lively 80-year-old Fort Worth, Texas, native says he never planned on dedicating his golden years to helping needy pets. Instead, it was a duty thrust upon him by the heartlessness of others.  “We live down on a dead-end street, where me and my brother have a horse barn,” Bostick told The Dodo. “People sometimes come by and dump dogs out here, leaving them to starve. So, we started feeding them, letting them in, taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for them to live.” Over the years, Bostick has taken in countless abandoned dogs. But more than just keeping them safe, he’s found an adorable way to keep them happy, too. “One day I was out and I seen this guy with a tractor who attached these carts to pull rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train,'” said Bostick. “I’m a pretty good welder, so I took these plastic barrels with holes cut in them, and put wheels under them and tied them together.”

Well I’ll be damned if that’s not the most adorable fucking thing. So far that’s the best idea I’ve seen for what to do during retirement.  There’s a few choices.  Most old people move down to Florida, got to dinner at 4:30 and lose their goddamn minds.  Any Seinfeld episode involving Jerry’s parents and Del boca Vista comes to mind.  That seems like an okay option.  My Dad retired about two years ago and he does nothing but play golf all day every day around here then high tail it to Arizona the second the weather turns towards winter. Once he’s there he continues to play golf.  It’s a pretty good course of action.  Works well for him.  He’s always really tan and his golf game is sharp.  Then there’s what this guy did and it’s by far the best option yet.  Basically hang out with rescue dogs all day and take them on little adventures in the tractor train you built for them.  Heaven.  Look at the pups in that picture.  Every single one of them is smiling from ear to ear. Each day of life I’m working towards just being able to hang out with dogs all day. I wanna be covered in puppies. If it takes 80 years reach that goal then so fucking be it. That guy is a role model.
