The Independent- Convicted killer Stuart Horner has ended his protest at Manchester’s Strangeways prison after more than 60 hours on the roof. Horner, 35, who was jailed in 2012 for shooting dead his uncle with a sawn-off shotgun, had vowed to continue his protest for “40 days and nights” after scaling the roof of HMP Manchester on Sunday afternoon. Two officers with riot shields climbed ladders inside the roof void on Tuesday morning, but were unable to reach Horner, who was seen smashing windows and throwing pieces of metal to the ground in scenes that echoed the Strangeways riot of April 1990. But Horner agreed to surrender just before 3am on Wednesday after shouting to onlookers that he had been promised a pizza and a can of fizzy pop.

Like we needed anymore reasons to crown pizza and Coca Cola as one of the best meals in the world.  Not only is it delicious and the two food items compliment each other perfectly, it now ends three-day stand offs at prisons with a convicted murderer.  Somebody should’ve spoke up sooner with the pizza and Coke idea.  It never fails.  That three-day protest could’ve been over before it started.  Inmate climbs up to roof of prison, negotiator offers pizza and a can of Coke, inmate climbs down from prison roof.  Done and done. 10 minutes max.  Pizza and pop (or soda or whatever you call it. Life is too short for such minor squabbles) can move mountains.  Forget about prison for a second. I will do just about anything if I’m promised pizza and pop at the end.  Chores, errands, brain surgery.  You name it. Also, I don’t pretend to know what’s going on with Iran and America but I’m fairly certain if Barry O was like, “How about this. Once we’re done hammering out this deal we’ll order up a couple of pizzas and a bunch of Cherry Coke 2 liters” there would be peace in the Middle East by October.
