Pussification of College Sports - Jim McElwain Apologizes For Yelling At His Idiot Player Because His Mom Got Mad At Him For It

GainesvilleFlorida coach Jim McElwain said he regrets his profanity-laced tirade directed at junior tailback Kelvin Taylor on the sideline in Saturday’s victory over East Carolina, and that he’ll learn from it.

“Absolutely. Yeah, I do (regret it),” McElwain said Monday. “I’m by no means perfect and I do know our players know how much I care about them. At the end of it, it also was a hug in learning from it.

“Yeah, I definitely did (learn from it). I’m pretty passionate about what we do. There’s no doubt about it. I’m not proud about it and neither is my mother. … 94 years old and I got an earful from her too. Rightfully so.”

An angry McElwain berated Taylor on the sideline after Taylor was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for making a throat-slashing gesture following his fourth-quarter touchdown run.

McElwain got in Taylor’s face and challenged him to be a man and look him in the eye. McElwain used the F-word six times during the rant.

“I don’t feel good about it,” McElwain said. “As you know, this is a very public job. This is a public thing that we do. I understand that I have a long ways to go and I make mistakes. Absolutely. Got to make sure that whatever it is we can’t hurt ourselves. Probably the frustrating part is we had really made some strides, I think, to do that.

“Am I proud of it? Absolutely not. Do I feel bad about it? Yes. At the same time, I’ve got to understand my mistakes as well and learn from it and go forward.”

GASP!!! The F WORD SIX TIMES?!?! Omg omg omg. An apology? That’s what we’re letting him get off the hook with? Saying I’m sorry? The fact that Jim McElwain hasn’t been fired, handcuffed, thrown into a cell and had an expedited trail sentencing him to 10-15 years in prison is an absolute joke. I mean these are college kids we’re talking about, precious snowflakes. If we let one coach raise his voice and discipline a player with no consequences what’s to stop a whole slew of coaches from doing the same thing? I get sick to my stomach just watching this.

Did he assault a player? Did he hit him? Did he stuff him in a storage shed outside of practice? Did he physically and emotionally and psychologically degrade a kid? No, he yelled at him and cursed him out for a stupid selfish penalty that cost his team, and he told him to be a man and look him in the eye, but in 2015 college sports that’s basically the same thing.
