FAIR OR FOUL: It's The First Week Of November And We Already Put The Christmas Tree Up At Our House
I have not met Cons before. I've watched him on some DogWalk Snake Drafts. Saw him on with Rone this week. And I think he's a big Springsteen fan.
I also know he's blogged and tweeted about life in the suburbs. And as a fellow burbs guy, I've agreed with him on some of his takes.
But this one? That he likes that it gets dark earlier after we change the clocks back?
Holy shit, I could not disagree with this take more.
I enjoy that it gets dark earlier The pressure to always be doing something subsides. Relaxing in front of the fire feels cozy. Warm, hearty meals inside are satisfying. There is a charm to the cold mixed with the dark. This “dark” period allows us to appreciate the spring and summer more Quit complaining and lean in folks
Giphy Images. No, I will not quit complaining. And I will not 'lean in.'
In fact, to add some light to our house now that it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoon here in Massachusetts, we put up the Christmas tree.

To be 100% honest, we put it up Sunday afternoon.
Now, no decorations and no other Christmas stuff out around the house - Thanksgiving turkeys and such. But the lighted fake tree is up. We went fake a few years ago, and I was against it, but man, it is easier than the real thing. And with those pine sticks you can hang on the tree, you get the same smell.

But this is what we're trying to combat. Awful, awful stuff.
More tired. Less energy. Bad mood. All things these early sunsets bring. If you have younger kids, it's a double whammy. Not only do you have darkness by mid-afternoon, but then the kids are inside earlier because of it. The nightly screen battle starts an hour earlier. I don't have a dog, but it must fuck them up, too.
To be fair, the early tree to add some light to the house wasn't my idea. I suffer from some Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and this early darkness does affect me. But this was my wife's call, and I'm 100% on board.
Well said, Jordie. At least some of my co-workers get it.
Just the worst. My neighbors probably think we're nuts. And sure, go ahead and mock the size of our tree. But the extra light has helped a lot, and I will not be shamed. But feel free to try in the comments. I will not "enjoy that it gets dark earlier." Cons.
I'll be enjoying the extra light during these depressing-ass early sunsets we get from Daylight Saving Time.
