The Philadelphia Flyers Might Suck This Year, But At Least Cutter Gauthier Is Playing Unbelievable
Rich Lam. Getty Images. The Philadelphia Flyers have completely shit the bed this year. They had an opportunity to actually be a central character in the NHL again after finally making their return to the playoffs last year, and they've followed it up by playing some of the worst dog shit hockey you've ever seen this year. The veterans on this team are a joke, the coach is an absolute dunce, and management couldn't possibly give less of a shit. When there are difficult decisions that need to be made, it's becoming increasingly evident that Danny Briere and Keith Jones do not have the guts to do what needs to be done.
But the one thing you can't take away from Danny Briere is his eye for talent. He knows it when he sees it. And while he may not have officially been the GM when the Philadelphia Flyers selected Cutter Gauthier with the 5th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, he was the "special assistant to the GM" for that pick. So essentially, Danny Briere drafted Cutter Gauthier. And boy oh boy does he look like a genius for that move.
2 games in a row now with a hatty for William Cutter Ruel Gauthier. And that's also 3 games in a row now where he's had multiple goals on the powerplay. Which makes him the first player in NHL history to have that kind of streak with the man advantage.
The Philadelphia Flyers have the 27th ranked powerplay in the league right now, and they've scored a total of 9 goals on the PP this year. 5 of those are from Michkov, and he has an assist on the other.
The Anaheim Ducks have the 1st ranked powerplay in the league right now, and Cutter Gauthier has scored 8 powerplay goals by himself. He's had 6 powerplay goals in just the last 3 games alone.

Obviously Laine has had a bit of a whacky career, but that's an insane list of names to find yourself on. He's scored 8 goals in a week. Besides Matvei Michkov, Cutter Gauthier has scored more goals since last Thursday than everyone else on the Flyers has scored all year.
So credit to the Flyers for being able to see that talent right away. Credit to the Flyers on having the vision to see that a generational goal scorer was there for the taking, and making that draft pick in 2022. I mean, yeah, maybe Cutter Gauthier never played a single game in a Flyers sweater in his career. But if the day ever comes that he breaks Ovechkin's record, it will always be remembered that he was a Philadelphia Flyers draft pick. Even if he scores all 1000 goals with the Ducks.
