Oklahoma Softball Canceled Its Scrimmage With East Texas A&M Due to 'Unforeseen Circumstances' Immediately After the Basketball Team Lost to Them As a 28-Point Favorite

Oklahoma's softball team, which has won six of the last 10 national championships, has canceled its fall scrimmage tomorrow night with East Texas A&M due to "unforeseen circumstances." The Sooners will instead play Rose State College.

It just so happens that last night, the East Texas A&M basketball team went into Norman and took down Oklahoma as a 28.5-point underdog, the second-largest upset by point spread in the last 30 years. I suppose that would count as unforeseen.

I don't want to tell the University of Oklahoma how to run its public relations department, but it seems evident to me pulling a stunt like this only exacerbates your problem. Once election coverage starts tonight, nobody will remember or care that your basketball program — which nobody really cares about to begin with — lost as a huge favorite to East Texas A&M. But now you've voluntarily made things worse on yourself by having your elite softball program tell a team that went 6-46 last season they can't play you anymore because their basketball team came in and embarrassed you.

If the softball game against East Texas A&M is even possibly going to be competitive, you've got bigger problems to worry about.

If God has a sense of humor, the Rose State College Raiders will go into Norman and lay it on Oklahoma. Let's see how humiliating a second loss to East Texas A&M would have been when you lose to a junior college.
