Dan Hurley Picked Up A Milestone Win At UConn But Wanted Nothing To Do With The Commemorative Game Ball
There were a few games on Sunday, but now we can finally say the college basketball season is officially underway, with my coworker Marty Mush getting his hopes up and jinxing Duke at the same time.
Great work by Stats; this is glorious.
Turns out he does this like, every year. Tough scene.
Meanwhile, America's best college basketball coach was collecting his 200th win at UConn as the Huskies rolled Monday night.
And he wanted nothing to do with the special game ball they tried to present to him after the game.
Perfect.
Because for Hurley - whose teams have gone to three Final Fours in four seasons - there are bigger goals this season.

This was kind of a big deal last week. You know the NBA will come calling again, and UConn and Hurley added a few years to his deal.
That's great news for UConn and for college basketball.
Hurley gets it. You see it in his interactions with the fans and podcast stars.
His willingness to call out the NCAA on their bullshit matters. He owns one of the biggest voices in the sport, and he's willing to use it.
As for his team, they went out and destroyed Gardner-Webb Monday night, as expected.

Braylon Mullins got right back to work. Can't believe he came back.
Memo to Marty and the rest of the college basketball world: This UConn team is loaded.
Get used to seeing them on your TV.
I mean, look at this non-conference schedule. Hurley is a madman.
No Marty Mush-like predictions from me, but this feels like a special UConn team. They did what they were supposed to do Monday night, and Dan Hurley picked up a milestone win.
Even if we wanted nothing to do with that game ball.
