THE BEARS ARE BUYING: Ryan Poles Has Traded For DT Jeffery Simmons
WELL GOD DAMMMMNNNN
Ryan Poles pushing his chips in. A HUGE package. You don't make this move unless you believe you can absolutely win a Super Bowl. This is a move that can push the Bears defense into a scary category. Pressure up the middle. 11 sacks from the DT spot last year. 4 already this year. The Bears needed a better pash rush. This is the type of move that makes everyone better. It makes Sweat better. It makes Booker better. It makes the secondary better. It makes Dennis Allen better. The Bears went out and got an absolute GAME WRECKER at defensive tackle.
Now...it is a STEEP price. Two firsts is a lot. It's an all-in type of move. Hopefully they're just giving up the 32nd pick two years in a row and nobody will care what they paid when Caleb, Ben Johnson and McCaskey are lifting the Lombardi Trophy. This was arguably the Bears biggest need. I put out this poll the other day

A lot of people replied that the Bears needed a DT more than anything and while I didn't disagree in theory, I never thought they'd make a move for a player like this. The secondary is still very much a work in progress, but if the QB is getting pressured constantly by Sweat, Booker, Simmons, and Gordon coming on exoctic blitzes then that can cover up a lot of holes in the secondary. This is a season changing, expectation changing type of trade. I can't believe the Bears might actually be the favorite in the NFC right now.
