'No Girl Code': The War Between Victoria's Secret Models Candice Swanepoel and Joan Smalls Over Tom Brady Has Escalated
Begun, the Lingerie Models Wars have.
Like most of the Eurasian continent in the early 20th century, Victoria's Secrets models are all sharing an uneasy peace, held together with a complex web of treaties, pacts, alliances, competing interests, regional disputes an simmering rivalries. So now, as in Sarajevo in 1914, all it took was one inciting incident to set off the powerkeg and launch a Great War.
The spark that set off the explosion? That would be the revelation that Tom Brady has begun seeing Victoria's Secret legend Candice Swanepoel. As Devlin wrote about a couple days ago:
And as much as you hate to see it, that war has claimed its first casualty. Not Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Not some French soldier or Belgian peasant. Something much more tragic. It's cost two Angels a (literally) beautiful friendship:
NY Post - Joan Smalls isn’t being the bigger person.
We’re told she’s so furious that fellow Victoria’s Secret Angel and former BFF Candice Swanepoel has hooked up with her one-time paramour Tom Brady that she’s giving their mutual friends an ultimatum: you’re either friends with her, or friends with me.
The women had been “inseparable” for 15 years, but are apparently discovering that sharing the runway is one thing — sharing a football player is quite another.
According to our source, when Smalls was dating the Patriots great, Swanepoel gave her a hard time, repeatedly encouraging her to dump him.
But when the opportunity arose for the blonde beauty to make her own play to sack the quarterback, she took it.
Incensed, Smalls seemed to take several public swipes at Swanepoel, who shares two sons with ex-fiancé, Brazilian model Hermann Nicoli.
The article then recaps some references made to some Bravo show that Devlin mentioned, but I'm refusing to get lost in those weeds. We continue:
Smalls labeled Swanepoel, also 38, a “backstabber” when a fan asked if they were not friends.
Joan allegedly responded, “im not friends with backstabbers.”
In a separate now-deleted message, Smalls said there “was no girl code.”
“And the disrespect and carelessness in how they treat you is so unimaginable. There’s no going back. Some people lack humility and moral compass,” she added.
“And the way they gaslight, lie and minimize your feelings is the worst slap in the face after 15yrs or friendship. Not a sorry said or written. Onwards and upwards!!!”
You hate to see it. A 15-year supermodel friendship in ashes. Though it's hard to blame either side. Yes, war is tragic. Everyone pays a price in the end. Innocents suffer. There's a terrible cost to be paid in blood and treasure.
But it needs to be said also that some wars are worth fighting. Where the cause is simply too important to lay down your arms and make peace. The US Civil War. World War II. Star Wars. And now, The Lingerie Model Wars. When the prize is the chance to bed the most desirable genetic specimen on the planet, you fight to the last. No friendship is more important than that. No Girl Code can survive. No humility or moral compass matters. Only victory. Only winning the war and claiming the spoils.
So congratulations once again to Brady, still setting records that will never be approached, even long after his playing days are over. The man is approaching 50, and he's still the hypotenuse in the world's most impressive Love Triangle:
