Aaron Rodgers Claims A Decade Ago The NFL Planned On Having A Whole International Week, But The 'Greedy Owners' Wanted 17 Games Instead
First off, fuck the idea of International Week. I don't know we have to play regular season games in a different country. The NFL plays in America, it's our sport, it's what we need. Plus, we don't need a full Sunday where games are over at like 3pm. What the hell do we do then? Go apple picking? No thank you.
Second, who knows how true this is. I can see the idea of having International Week. That's something the NFL would probably push. Goodell has this fetish with playing all over the world and if you put 16 games in 16 different countries, he'd be in heaven. Forget the fans who live by their teams and have season tickets and all that stuff. Go play in Dubai for whatever reason.
Of course the owners pushed for a 17th game. It's more money in their pocket. It's another game they get to fill the stadium, sell stuff, TV, whatever they do to make money. I'm not rich so it's like I know the feeling. But, there was never a doubt that the NFL was going to push for more regular season games. It's why Aaron Rodgers is kinda perfect to at least talk about this because he doesn't give a shit what he says. Now, whether it's true or not or how Rogers can be annoying, he'll at least talk about whatever is on his mind.
Feels like we're still going to get this at some point. 17 or 18 regular season games and teams playing overseas at least once. I'm sick of it, man. When La Liga tried to play a regular season game here, there was a mutiny. Fans lost their minds, everyone hated it. Why do we have to ship our sports out to other countries all the time? Play in the stadium that cost billions of dollars and let fans come. If anything fix the schedule so we get more games in the 4pm slate.
