Party Pooper Adam Schefter Says Peyton Manning WILL NOT Be The Colts Next GM, The Colts Never Even Contacted Him, and He's Perfectly Happy With ESPN

God damn it, Dan Patrick. I almost believed him. Not that I ever really had my hopes that Peyton Manning would become the Colts' next GM. But Dan Patrick doesn't strike me as a guy who breaks news all willy-nilly either. I figured if Dan Patrick was saying this on his show...

Then there must be a little something there. Peyton Manning must have at least picked up the phone. Maybe he countered with some ridiculous terms like, "Sure, I'll take the job. I just need 50% of the franchise to go along with it."

But nope. Not according to Adam Schefter, who just had to swoop in and rain on everyone's parade. Not only did he break the news that Peyton Manning will not be the Colts' next GM, but his article also made a point of telling us just how much the Colts have NOT discussed the opening with him. At all. And that he is, in fact, VERY happy and far too busy with his current obligations (that include working for ESPN).

ESPN – Peyton Manning has many jobs -- Omaha Productions, the "ManningCast," commercial pitchman -- but he is not expected to add Indianapolis Colts general manager to his list of titles and responsibilities, league sources told ESPN.

The Colts have not approached Manning about their vacant GM job nor would the Hall of Fame quarterback be expected to be interested in the position, sources said. Manning has not trained or aspired to become an NFL general manager, not with all that he has going on in his life.

Manning has created a post-football, off-the-field career as successful as the one he had on the gridiron. He has two children in high school, "Monday Night Football" obligations and commercial shoots scattered across his calendar.

Manning would be willing to listen and consider any NFL opportunities at any time, but the Colts have not discussed any of those possibilities with him, according to sources.

In 2024, Manning publicly said that running an NFL franchise was not on his radar at that time. He said he was enjoying working on the "ManningCast" with his brother, Eli, and being at home with his family.

By having the "ManningCast" and Omaha Productions, Manning has been able to stay close to the sport and have as much work as he wants without the demands of running a team.

Fine, Schefty. We get it. Dan Patrick was wrong. Peyton Manning works for you guys. How dare anyone suggest he might want to do something else. We'll keep our hands off. Jesus.

So until the Colts find a real candidate for GM… just keep on doing your thing out there, Daniel Jones. Keep on chuckin' that pigskin into double coverage.

I know the Colts don't have a first-round draft pick this year, but the same rules apply for rounds 2-7. Might as well ride Indiana Jones to the highest draft picks possible. For the Colts, that's all there is to play for anymore. At this point, it would be downright irresponsible to cheer for Daniel Jones' success. We can't risk him being QB1 any longer than absolutely necessary. And I refuse to watch my team start the season 2-5, make up a term like "Buc Ball", and convince myself they're still a contender to win the division.

Ok, fine, I'm sure "Buc Ball" is something people say, or have said, in Tampa Bay Buccaneers land. The internet tells me it was a phrase in the 2000's. It means ugly football. So I guess it does kinda make sense when applied to a 2-5, last place football team.
