Oregon State Breakout WR Jesse Legree Held a Press Conference at His High School To Announce He Would Be Staying at the School He Already Attends Next Season
College football in 2026: Jesse Legree, seven games into his collegiate career, flew across the country to his high school during Oregon State's open week to announce he would still play football at OSU next season. I'm old enough to remember when playing at the same school your freshman and sophomore year was just how it worked.
To be clear, I love Legree. He's one of the most electric players in the country and should absolutely be in the Heisman Trophy conversation. I'll just never quite be used to an in-season "Decision Day" where players hold a signing day ceremony to stay at their school.
Also, just from a pragmatic standpoint, it seems a little nuts for Legree to not enter the transfer portal after this season and just see what kind of offers are out there. I'm sure his agent has a good idea of what he'd be able to get elsewhere and maybe Oregon State really ponied up to keep Legree in Corvallis, but it couldn't hurt to just take a look around in December. I feel supremely confident OSU would have welcomed this young man back with open arms if he went into the portal and decided he wanted to return.
I guess on the whole, this move is to be commended. Maybe a mid-season signing ceremony to remain at the school you just committed to less than a year ago will remain weird to those of us of a certain age for a while, but that's just the game now.
Heisman loading?
