Real Life Supervillain Stuff: Knicks Employees Reportedly Received An Email To Choose Their Championship Ring But It Was Actually A Phishing Test From MSG And Nobody Will Actually Be Receiving Rings
The Athletic- The Knicks assistants were told they would receive championship rings eventually, but many longtime employees at Madison Square Garden, including some who work in the Knicks’ business operations, will not receive rings at all, team sources told The Athletic. Typically, most employees for NBA teams receive rings, even if they are not as fancy and expensive as the ones the players receive.
Those Madison Square Garden employees got their hopes up at the end of September when the Knicks sent an email to a long list of employees, which gave recipients a first glimpse at their would-be championship rings. Atop the email, a copy of which The Athletic has obtained, was a graphic of two differently styled rings. “Congratulations, your Employee Championship Ring is here,” the email read. “(Employee name), this one is on the house. MSG is issuing a complimentary employee championship ring. The same jeweler, the same craftsmanship, personalized with your name. No cost to you.
“There are two designs to choose from: Championship Gold and Garden Classic. Reserve the one you want below.”
But the email was a fake-out, a phishing test Madison Square Garden sent to see if those employees would click, multiple team sources said.
Those who did click the link at the bottom of the message did not get to choose any jewelry; instead, they were forced to attend a mandatory cybersecurity class to help satisfy some of Dolan’s growing cybersecurity concerns, those team sources said.
Giphy Images.I was going to go on a whole rant about how fucked up this is, how it's kind of a bullshit way to test your employees since they were all left in the dark about rings, and round it up with my usual video of James Dolan looking like a bozo while playing the kazoo. But at this point, I have to tip my cap to the dictator of the MSGulag for doing shit that supervillains would do and bringing it to real life.
I thought All Business Pete sending a fake Uber Eats email promising free food to all of us oversized idiots at Barstool was mean. But telling an employee that they are set to receive a championship ring then hitting them with a "JK, instead of a ring you are getting an invitation to a mandatory cybersecurity class" is some true diabolically evil shit that only James Dolan, Lex Luthor, and Michael Scott would think was a good idea. Two of those guys are fictional by the way, with one being the epitome of evil overlord billionaire while the other is the epitome of idiotic boss. Yet somehow they perfectly combine to create the very real James Dolan that constantly keeps reminding us he owns the Knicks in all the wrong ways after vanishing while Leon Rose built his franchise back up from rubble to NBA champions.
I also completely understand how important cybersecurity is because I am seeing all these tweets about how fucked internet security is right now due to shit my simple brain cannot understand. But using a championship ring as a phishing test and then not giving anybody a ring is as dumb as it is cruel. What a fucking joke from an absolute clown, which is unfortunately par for the course for him whenever he is in the news. All of this is just another bullet point on the super impressive resume for the legendary Knicks run.
Oh yeah and of course...
