Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl Are Proof That All You Need To Win Hockey Games Are Two of the Top 5 Players On The Planet

Hockey teams overthink all the time. There's this magical blueprint that GMs are always trying to follow, where they think your team needs a true 1C, a true 1D, and a great goaltender if you want to have success in this league. But allow me to clue you bitches in to a little secret--you don't need a great goalie to have success in this league, because look at the Edmonton Oilers. They have Devon Levi and Tristan Jarry. Both of those guys have a ceiling of "eh, I guess they aren't that bad".

You don't need a true #1 defenseman, because just look at the Edmonton Oilers. Their best defenseman is Evan Bouchard, and everyone thinks he's going to be a Norris candidate this year. Well, up until he became Seth Jarvis' puppy after getting put on a leash right here.

You don't need the goalie. You can forget about the defenseman. If you want to win games in this league, all you need to do is go out there and find yourself 2 out of the top 5 players in the world. It's honestly that easy. It's just 2 guys, and then the rest of your team can pretty much fuck off the whole game.

The Edmonton Oilers won a game last night against the reigning Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes. They did so by a score of 6-5 in a shootout. How did Edmonton get their 5 goals?

Easy. Connor McDavid had 5 points and Leon Draisaitl had 5 points. Each of them had 2 goals and 3 assists on the night. The only other goal scored by anyone other than Connor or Leon was by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The assists on that goal?

It's just that simple. General Managers spend so much time trying to construct the best roster possible when really all it takes in this league is two guys. Hell, if Peter Chiarelli can do it then anybody can.

31 points in the first 10 games for McJesus. That's more than Wayne Gretzky ever had to start off a season. McDavid has had 3 games already this year where he's put up 5 points. He has only had 2 games this year where he's only put up a single point. He has had 0 games this year with 0 points. 71 total combined points between McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard through the first 10 games of this season. It has to be feeling like the 80s up in Edmonton right now.
