It's in My Soul and Now It's Running Wild...

I always believed life was about understanding other people, but over the years, I've realized it's really about understanding the one person who matters most. Yourself.

If you're like me, you've spent your entire life filling roles: spouse, parent, earner, friend, to name a few… But as you get older, much of that fades, and you're forced to focus on yourself, sometimes for the first time in years. It can be daunting.

I thought I knew who I was, but I really only knew the version of myself I was in the moment. When my world changed, and I was suddenly alone, I dug in and, for the first time in a long time, began to discover who I am.

I believe I was fair to everyone I've interacted with in my lifetime, but not necessarily to myself…

I did the right things. I made sacrifices, put others first, and I don't regret it. But now that there's only one heart beating, I'm getting a clearer picture of myself.

Introspection can be very revealing, scary too, and for many years I avoided it. Recently, I realized you have to embrace it to grow.

They say, "It's never too late," and maybe they're right. Maybe what keeps us truly alive is life's ever-changing journey and the chance it provides us to continue learning about ourselves.

And then, ultimately, discovering what's in your soul, and letting it run wild…

I've led an interesting life. But over the last five years, I've faced many unexpected challenges, and how I reacted to them has helped define who I am, not in the way I ever expected.

I'm still a work in progress, and I'm okay with that. "And I don't mind, to lose it all in the fire."

I constantly wonder, "Why the fuck did it take me so long to get here?"

Give me fire, give me bonesSomething I can sink my teeth inLet it roll through the heart of mePour it in like kerosene

Ooh, it's in my soul and it runs wild…
