"SGA, He's Already Won One Championship, He's Been In The Finals, He's Heading Towards The Finals Again" - On Day 1 Of The New NBA Season, Adam Silver Has Already Leaked The Script On National TV
Christian Petersen. Getty Images.Happy NBA Opening Day (??) everyone! I'll admit, it's a little weird that the NBA is starting their season in the middle of the day, but as someone who has been waiting months for today's festivities, I'm all for it. All the hype, all the predictions, today marks the collective first step up the NBA mountain. Every year the climb is different, things rarely go like we all expect and there's no reason to think this season should be any different.
Who will make their way to the top of the mountain and dethrone the Knicks? It's hard to say. Many fanbases enter today believing their team is going to be the one to do it. What I would say is that if you're a fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder, aside from being a basketball machine and title favorite, there's another reason to think maybe this could be a season that sees you return to the top of the mountain. Adam Silver basically confirmed it by accidently leaking the 2026-27 NBA Script on live television
I'm sorry, what was that Adam? Interesting you would know who was headed to the NBA Finals when the first game of the season hasn't even been played yet. You could tell he realized what happened in real time and tried that sorry ass spinzone, but who is buying that? You know he had an "OH FUCK" moment in his head and thought if he could follow up with "at least that's what their hope is" that nobody would notice he spilled the beans on this year's script.
Add in the fact that fans across the league have felt that during this entire Thunder run they've benefitted from let's say…..inconsistent officiating, and that's what makes it even funnier. Of course Adam Silver would go on TV and somehow play into the conspiracy theories of NBA Twitter. Surely people will be totally calm and react normally to this little mishap, right?
Here's the thing. It's not exactly a hot take to suggest the Thunder are going to make the Finals and perhaps win the whole thing. They should. That's their baseline. It's either title or bust for this team, because they're that good. Everyone is hopeful that their team will make the Finals and win a Larry, but deep down we all know the "actual" contenders is a must smaller list, and the Thunder are most definitely on it. So even if that's in the NBA's script, it wouldn't be some sort of upset or surprise.
My question is, does Silver now go back to his writers and have them switch things up since he fumbled like that on TV. He still needs people to watch his product this season, and after letting that slip on Day 1 of the season, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they go back for some rewrites. In that case, perhaps the list of actual contenders gets a little longer if OKC is now out.
I'm just saying, keep this little mishap in your back pocket as we navigate the next 10+ months. You can choose to ignore it and believe it was just a slip of the tongue or that he got his wires crossed and misspoke
Giphy Images. But to that I would say, grow up Peter Pan, Count Chocula. The initial script leaked, and now we just have to see what they cook up next.
