Milwaukee Brewers Fans Who Purchased "Timeless Tickets" For $1000 Over a Decade Ago, That Were Supposed to Get Them Best Seats Available for ANY Brewers Game, Say Brewers Aren't Fully Honoring The Deal for World Series – (UPDATE: Brewers Have Released a Statement in Effort to Make Things Right)

What a lovely, mild-mannered Milwaukee area reporter. He looks like Mr. Rogers in a 26-year-old's body. I bet he does great work. I bet he has a cat.

When you hear the evidence laid out in that news hit, it's hard to argue with the Brewers Brothers. The Milwaukee Brewers sold their fans "Timeless Tickets" for $1,000. They are to be good for any game – regular season, postseason, or World Series. The information card provided with the Timeless Ticket says, "The Timeless Ticket and any additional purchased tickets may be redeemed for the best available seat location(s), subject to ticket availability at the time of redemption."

Seems pretty cut-and-dried to me. It's written right there in black and white. If these Timeless Ticket holders are watching their fellow Brewers fans buy better tickets than they're being offered, and a Milwaukee Brewers employee confirmed it on the phone, unless I'm missing something, I'm not sure how you could argue in favor of the Brewers.

The fans have a right to be pissed. The Brewers are essentially making sure that those who bought Timeless Tickets don't get their money's worth. Inflation alone makes that $1,000 closer to $1,500 in today's economy. Had they invested that $1,000 in the market back in 2015, they'd have closer to $5,000 right now. That would be enough for a lower-level ticket on the secondary market at American Family Field in Milwaukee. It would also be enough for a round-trip flight from Milwaukee to Tampa, a hotel room, and one of the best seats in the house at Tropicana Field for Game 3 or 4.

Now had they invested in bitcoin… I don't even want to think about that. This exercise is already making me feel stupid enough. So maybe purchasing a $1,000 Timeless Ticket wasn't the wisest investment to begin with. Those who bought them were essentially banking on tickets being worth well more than a grand by the time the Brewers made the World Series. But even just 11 years later, with the Brewers about to play in the World Series, the buyers were kind of right. That investment should be paying off.

I don't know whether the Brewers needed a quick cash grab back in 2015, if they thought they'd be in better financial shape by the time people started cashing in, or if they were banking on the market for Brewers tickets never exceeding $1,000. But it sure sounds like they fucked up. They definitely seem to be fucking up the way they're handling the Timeless Tickets now.

I'm with you, Brewers brothers. And any other Timeless Ticket holders who were on top of their shit, attempted to redeem them as soon as the World Series ticket market opened, and were offered nothing but terrace level and standing room only "seats". The Milwaukee Brewers pulled a real-life Scott's Tots. Unless there's some other disclaimer we don't know about, it sounds like the Milwaukee Brewers sold their fans a false bill of goods.

UPDATE: Soon after this blog was published, Brewers President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger released this statement.

The Brewers just apologized for their handling of the Timeless Ticket redemptions.

From President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger:

"Several hundred fans indicated an intention to redeem their Timeless Ticket for a World Series game. We subsequently erred in our internal communications on the logistics of fulfilling the requests. While we were able to accommodate all with seats, we received feedback from some that they were unhappy with their seat locations.

Clearly, even with extraordinary limitations on available seats, we did not live up to the spirit of the program and we have been working through a resolution. We are happy to say that all of these fans who applied prior to the deadline will be contacted with a positive update: they can retain their World Series ticket for this year, plus retain their Timeless Ticket for redemption for another game in any future season. We regret our mistake and look forward to welcoming them to America Family Field for their World Series experience.”

There ya go, Brewers. That wasn't too hard. They just made the Timeless Tickets even better. Free admission to this World Series (in a kind of shitty seat), and they get to keep their Timeless Ticket to use for any game in the future. Turns out that Timeless Ticket wasn't such a bad investment. I mean… still not as good as bitcoin. But they could end up getting two World Series games for a $1,000. Can't complain about that. Good job, Brewers. Way to eventually do the right thing.
