Wait, Wait, Wait...A Disney+ Subscription Costs HOW Much These Days??
PATRICK T. FALLON. Getty Images.Apologies for being a little late on this story, guys. This is total news to me. And it's also total bullshit.
ESPN announced last night that they'd be airing one of those kid-catered altcasts for the Super Bowl this year. This time around, the broadcast will be Star Wars themed with a bunch of characters from a galaxy far, far away making appearances.
Naturally, because I'm a giant fucking nerd, I was intrigued. So I looked into where this altcast would be airing. Sure enough, it'll be shown on Disney+ when Super Bowl Sunday rolls around. And then I discovered how much they're charging for Disney+ these days…
21 bucks a month?? Granted, this is for the version without ads. You can still enjoy a cheaper version of the platform if you wanna deal with a commercial every five fucking minutes. But what the hell happened to this app?
I got Disney+ the very first day it came out in 2019. There were no ads and it cost an easy $6.99. It was perfect. Now, just seven years later, that price has tripled. And for what? Do they think just because they give us a terrible Marvel show every once in awhile that they can jack up the prices this much? She-Hulk isn't worth this shit.
People clowned me for a long time because I kept buying DVDs. They called me a fossil. They said I was an 80-year-old grandpa trapped in a 25-year-old's body. But I saw the future! I knew some of these apps would get out of control! I'm totally fine sticking with the old school way of watching Star Wars on DVD. It's better than getting fucked every month by the Disney overlords.
In general, it's news like this that really makes me yearn for the days where standard cable television reigned supreme. The days before everything got so fragmented and you had to purchase every streaming platform under the sun.
But I guess there's no going back…
