We're Finally Getting A Look At What Nick Sirianni Can Do Without An Elite Team Carrying Him. And You Guessed It, It's Not Good
Mitchell Leff. Getty Images.Nick Sirianni has the highest winning percentage among current NFL head coaches. The only guys on the all-time list who have a higher winning percentage than him have names like John Madden, Vince Lombardi, Don Shula and George Halas. He's won a Super Bowl, has been to two, and has taken the Eagles to the playoffs every season he's been a head coach so far. And with how truly dog shit the NFC East is this year, it's crazy to think that there is still the slightest chance that the 2-4 Eagles are still in the playoff hunt right now.
On paper, Nick Sirianni is one of the most successful coaches we've ever seen. On paper, it looks like Nick Sirianni would be on a trajectory to be remembered as one of the all-time greats.
And then you watch the Eagles play football, and you realize this guy doesn't have a fucking clue what he's doing out there.
I'm not letting Sean Mannion off the hook here, but it's abundantly clear that the Philadelphia Eagles are running the same exact offense they've always been running. Sean Mannion might technically be calling the plays, but he's not the one controlling the playbook right now. It's Nick's playbook and it is getting guys killed out there.

Now there are plenty of excuses for the Eagles offense looking so atrocious this year. In fact, they are historically atrocious as far as Eagles teams in the last 27 years go.
Obviously you look at the Panthers game yesterday and you would think that the key to the game would be to get the running game going. But the Eagles went into that game with Dameon Pierce and some dude named Carson Steele as their two options at running back, and Carson Steele got hurt the moment he touched the ball. The offensive line is already a disaster as it is, especially now trying to get used to a new quarterback.
If you're looking for excuses, the Eagles have a like 37 of them right now. But this is the first time we are seeing Nick Sirianni leading a Philadelphia Eagles team that doesn't have elite talent all over the offensive side of the field. We've seen what he can do with an elite roster. Now would be the time for Nick Sirianni to prove what he can do to elevate a shit roster. And the only answer we've gotten from him so far is that he has no answer.

Has it seriously taken this guy until week 6 to realize the offense isn't working, and that they need to try literally anything different? This team has scored 3 total points in the 1st quarter of games this year, and 6 total points in the 3rd quarter. When this team is coming straight out of the locker room and fresh off of whatever Nick Sirianni said in there, they are the worst football team to ever exist. 9 points through 6 games directly after Nick Sirianni has the team in the locker room. It's disgusting. And now after 6 weeks he finally realizes that maybe they should try something different.
It's too late, Nick. You're an offensive minded head coach who management doesn't trust enough to call plays, and you don't have any answers on offense. He's not some incredible program builder or master recruiter. The team culture you've built in the locker room has led to multiple players retiring in the middle of seasons, AJ Brown forcing his way out of town, and now even Andy Dalton wants absolutely nothing to do with you.
Everybody can see how poorly this offense and this team is being run by the head coach right now. Nobody with an option wants to be a part of this. A team that won a Super Bowl just 2 years ago, and nobody wants anything to do with it. The longer Nick Sirianni stays attached to this team, the harder of a hit the Eagles' reputation around the league is going to take. I don't know how much Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman want to flirt around with that.
