Ben Simmons' Comeback Season Is Over Before It Even Began After He Becomes The Latest Player To Tear Their Achilles

For a wide variety of reasons, life is tough right now for Kings fans. If any fanbase out there deserved something to finally go their way and maybe bring some positivity to their basketball lifes, it's them.

In the preseason, it looked like one of those things may be the return of Ben Simmons. After missing all of last year due to injury, Simmons made his return by signing with the Kings and actually looked pretty good!

I'm not saying we were about to get the All NBA version of Simmons, but the bar is so low that even a rotational caliber player would be good enough. At least Kings fans would have something exciting to watch and root for in what is most likely going to be a long season.

But then you remember that for some reason, the Basketball Gods love tormenting this fanbase. I don't know what they did to deserve this hell, but man, they keep getting hit

Oh god dammit. What a gut punch that is. Work your way all the way back after missing a year, show flashes of being playable and a real NBA player and then boom, torn achilles. Damn, that really sucks. Even though the recent history of KD, Tatum, Haliburton, and Dame are showing that it's possible to come back from this injury and be as good as ever, it's still a devastating blow to both Simmons and Kings fans. It's still another year-long injury with a grueling, intense rehab.

I don't know what's going on in the NBA right not, but they officially have an achilles tear problem. This is now the 3rd torn achilles of the preseason, which feels like an insane number of achilles tears. First it was Ariel Hukporti for the Sixers who popped his while playing defense after getting bit by the negative step

and then the same thing happened to Otega Oweh for the Thunder who also fell victim to the negative step move

I'm not sure how Simmons injured his, but it wouldn't shock me if it was with a similar motion/step. We're starting to see it happen more and more with a lot of these recent Achilles tears, and I don't know what the answer is to stop it. Am I just being a prisoner of the moment? Does it not feel like this type of injury is happening way more, and almost at random? It's terrifying really. It's reached the point where you almost have to be bracing for it to happen on any possession during an NBA game which is certainly no way to live.

For Kings fans, I'm sorry. I don't even know how to spinzone this for you. For whatever reason, you are just not allowed to have anything nice, ever. I don't get it. You'd think that city and fanbase has suffered enough, and then boom, you get hit with something like this. That's beyond brutal. I'd say it gets better from here and brighter days are ahead, but we both know that's probably not going to be the case. At least you have Darius Acuff Jr. He'll be fun, so just focus on that instead I guess.
