Netflix Is Turning The Viral Fake 49ers Wide Receiver Story Into Documentary Called "Wide Deceiver" With Firsthand Accounts From Some Alleged Victims

Listen, I've got a few thoughts about this. My first thought is that I can't believe this happened only a month ago. It feels like that was the most viral story on the Internet in like June, not in September. And if you live under a rock, here are a couple of blogs that will catch you up to speed on the fella who cosplayed as a 49ers wide receiver and was alleged to have stolen over $1 million from different women:

It culminated in his arrest in a Boise, Idaho airport, where he was still wearing 49ers gear:

Anyway, Netflix moves incredibly fast because we're getting an Untold documentary on this whole story. Untold documentaries are great, they're the new 30 for 30 except Netflix moves at the speed of light. I would have loved to be on a fly on the wall for the roundtable conversations about how quickly they're going to find some of the alleged victims who want to be on a documentary that will be viewed by millions of people.

The scale of this story being the most viral on the Internet with billions of impressions on every platform makes me think this is going to be one of the most watched documentaries in quite some time. And I'd be lying if I told you I won't be sitting on my couch watching this the day it comes out. Netflix does it again. Well played.
