The Philadelphia Flyers Have Now Lost 8 Straight Games To Start The Season, And It's Time For Them To Commit To The Bit
Emilee Chinn. Getty Images. The season started on September 30th filled with so much excitement and expectation. The Flyers were coming off of their first playoff appearance in 5 years. They had won their first playoff series (with fans in attendance) in over a decade. How were they going to follow that up, and build on that momentum?
Well when you have an archaic sack of shit like Rick Tocchet as your head coach, that means you're going to go on an 8-game losing streak to start a season for the 3rd time in his coaching career. Almost as if he's proven that he's a terrible coach over an extended period of time at this point.
It almost sounds impossible. But here we are. The Flyers lost 7 in a row. You'd hope that they would find a way to win by any means necessary last night against Seattle at home. They went down 2-0 to start the game, but clawed their way back to tie it up with 2 goals in the first half of the 3rd period. And then….fucking nothing.
Come back from being down 2-0 and then they can't even get a shot on net to close out regulation. So the game goes to overtime. Again, you NEED to win. It's not time to play scared. It's not time to play defensive. You absolutely have to find a way to win that hockey game. And your best bet is by having your most skilled and creative offensive weapon out on the ice. A guy who can do shit like this in the shootout.
But dumb dickhead Rick Tocchet had Matvei Michkov on the ice for a total of 22 seconds in overtime. 7 losses in a row, game in overtime, and you put 39 out there for 22 seconds. What a clown. What an absolute dunce who does not deserve to be employed anymore.
Despite Michkov's best efforts, the Flyers couldn't get the job done in the shootout and now they drop to 0-5-3 on the year. 8 straight losses to start the year, and you can make that 12 losses in a row if you want to go back to getting swept out of the 2nd round by Carolina last year. We're only halfway through October but there's a legitimate chance this is already too big of a hole for the Flyers to climb their way out of. The Flyers are always good to go on a 10-game losing streak at some point every year. But it's never this early. Even if they managed to win a bunch of games in a row to cancel this losing streak out, there is still way too much season left for them to go on another massive losing streak.
At this point they should just commit to the bit. See how long they can actually go without winning a game. They have a shitty Detroit team coming up, but they are desperate to get their fans off their ass. So that could be a bit mood changing win for Detroit. Then they have Ottawa who is buzzing out of the gates. Then they will get crushed by Colorado, beaten by Buffalo, and annihilated by Anaheim. The record for the longest losing streak to start an NHL season is 11. I think there is a real chance the Flyers can give that record a run for its money.

Also, even if the Flyers went 0-84 this year you know they wouldn't win the draft lottery.
