'Burn the Fucking Boats': Bob Chesney Had UCLA Ready To Run Through a Wall Before Beating Oregon
We are very likely going to look back one day at James Madison hiring Curt Cignetti and Bob Chesney back-to-back in a five-year period as one of the most remarkable feats in college football history. Former JMU athletic director Jeff Bourne, who hired both of those guys, retired in 2024 but he should probably look into running for President of the United States. Obviously, Cignetti has already won a national championship at the formerly worst program in the Power Four and now Chesney has UCLA looking like a College Football Playoff team in year one coming off a 3-9 season.
And just look at Bob getting the boys fired up before going into Autzen Stadium and handing a preseason national title favorite a home loss. This guy has it.

We saw in Kirby Smart's "leaked" pregame speech that he can get a group of kids ready to go knock somebody's head off, but when Chesney does the same thing and then turns around and puts on his sunglasses looking like the coolest dude of all-time, it just has a different energy. The aura is off the charts with this guy.
As long as UCLA has this guy coaching in Los Angeles, I have to imagine that place is going to be a pretty popular destination for recruits.
