We Have Our First Look At Michael B. Jordan And Austin Butler As Crockett & Tubbs And It's Magical

Like I mentioned when blogged this initial casting, this seems like an absolute dream. These are two of the hottest names in acting right now getting a chance to have fun within a well established IP. And man, just look at them. MBJ looks cool as hell and Butler looks more like Don Johnson than I thought was possible. In addition to them, Alden Ehrenreich, John Leguizamo, Walton Goggins, Danny Ramirez, Edi Gathegi and Andrew Shultz have joined the cast.

On the backend, this is an all-star affair. Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, F1) is directing this working off a script from Dan Gilroy (wrote/directed Nightcrawler, wrote Andor alongside his brother). This is an incredible pairing that I imagine will make both the action and drama flow to perfection.

As a defender of Michael Mann's 2006 movie, I think this franchise has been woefully underused. In a world where Hollywood loves to reboot beloved IPs to milk some money out of them, I'm always surprised that they never shoot for "solid" ones. Franchises that most people enjoy, but nobody reveres enough to get angry if news of a reboot comes across their desk. That zone is exactly where Miami Vice lives in. Great characters, outfits and action but it's not exactly 'The Godfather'.

The movie is filming now and slated for release in summer of 2028.
