'It Was The Best Times Of My Life' - Dan Campbell Delivered An Incredible Story About Meeting Mike Ditka At The NFL Combine

The Chicago guys have done an awesome job talking about Mike Ditka and what he meant to the city of Chicago. But he's obviously more than that. He's one of the faces you think of when it comes to football. He was one of the first true passing tight ends. He became a coach, with one of the most infamous trades in NFL history, showed up on TV and in movies. He's one of those guys who was just always around and always talked about.

So obviously a lot of the guys in the NFL are talking about him now. Coaches are starting press conferences to talk about him and his legacy, but none stick out like Dan Campbell:

Yeah, I can see that being intimidating. Love that Ditka went with the dark room, one lamp and filled the room with cigar smoke. That's the Mike Ditka I want to imagine. I want him to strike fear into tight ends at the NFL Combine. That was Dan Campbell, who obviously loved it. It's the best times of his life. You know Dan Campbell loved every second of getting to meet Mike Ditka, even if he got drafted by the Giants.

I can't imagine a more intimidating scene than what Campbell laid out here. You're trying to up your draft stock. You're meeting with teams all over the place. You get called into this small room, no one else there. One lamp. Ditka. That's the only way these two should have met. It's fitting for Campbell, a fellow tight end turned coach, to tell this sort of story about him.

RIP to a legend.
