Mike Ditka Will Always Be Remembered As An Icon In The World of Football, But His Performance In 'Kicking & Screaming' Will Stand The Test Of Time As a Masterclass In Acting

Very sad day in the sports world as we lose an icon in Mike Ditka at the age of 86. One of those guys you assumed would live forever and look the same with a cigar in his mouth, aviators shielding his eyes, and a temper ready to explode at any given moment. Chief hit the blog earlier with a tribute.
For a 32 year old like myself I'm not going to have any core memories of Ditka as a player or head coach. Obviously I know the history and have seen interviews, highlights, press conferences, etc, but if we're being honest one of Ditka's most iconic moments comes from his performance in the Will Ferrell comedy 'Kicking and Screaming.' As Will put it here below, it was pretty rare to see someone like Ditka take on a key role in a movie from start to finish. This wasn't a cameo deal by any means, Ditka was a massive part in the movie and played it so well. This story about how his newly replaced hip popped out mid-shoot and he just kept going is so awesome.
Starting out as the unruly neighbor who wouldn't allow any leaves to land in his backyard.
To the ongoing saga on smoking a cigar in his home and hiding it from his wife.

To then getting the Tigers in shape to win the championship.
Just a 10/10 effort from Ditka to help make this one of the more underrated comedies of the 2000s. Of course plenty will single out his impact to the game of football today, and rightfully so, but 'Kicking and Screaming' will always hold a special place in my heart. Rest in peace to a true legend.
