This Next Generation Of US Soccer Embarrassing Canada To Complete A Perfect Window Is Even More Reason We Should Believe The Hype
What you see there is a perfect goal. Another goal by one of the guys from the next generation. Actually, let me correct that. Justin Ellis is part of this new generation. A generation led by Cavan Sullivan and guys like Ellis, Julian Hall, Diego Konchan, Mathias Albert and all these under-20 guys that put together a perfect window. That's right, a perfect window. A window where went 4-0 with wins over Chile, Peru, Mexico and Canada. A window where this was the only game we scored less than 3 goals. A window where all these young guys came on and made some history.
And even better? A window where we have Canada crying
I love it. I love seeing Jesse Marsch get all pissy because there's no one who cries and complains more than Marsch. There was a time where he could, and probably should have been the US coach. He wanted it, it made sense, everything else. But now? Now we're in a better spot. We have Pochettino who put Jameis in a closet with his cologne
But that goal, which wasn't even close to offsides. We saw the replay on TV over and over again and Ellis was so clearly onside. Instead it was the perfect Pochettino goal. Alex Freeman, the guy who came out of nowhere a year ago and is a staple of the team, setting it up to Malik Tillman. Malik Tillman, another breakout star and legit might be our best player these days, with the pass back. Then a cross to one of these young guys with Ellis finishing. Bang.
We needed something in this window. It was the first time we saw the boys play since the World Cup. Now, what makes this generation different is 1) there's more than just 1 or 2 guys. We've always had 1 or 2 guys to look forward to. Now, it's half the team. 2) We're not completely resetting like we did after missing the 2018 World Cup. That was the signal that the guys we were used to seeing out there moving on and a bunch of new guys coming in. We're mixing the generations because of guys like Reyna, Berhalter, Freeman, Tillman, Antonee Robison, Tyler Adams and Dest still being in their prime. It's the perfect mix of what you want leading into 2030.
That was the sort of match needed to win too. Canada came in wanting to win, especially when you look at the starting XI's. They came out hacking away, picking up 10 fouls basically immediately. Instead we won. That's what good teams do. That's what this next generation does. They deserve every bit of hype coming out of this window.
