2x Super Bowl Champion And All-Time Legend, Lane Johnson, Retires From The NFL

Lane Johnson is all-time. When the story of football gets told a thousand years from now, Lane Johnson is in that book. He's been to 3 Super Bowls. He's won 2 of them. He was a 2x First-Team All-Pro, and a 3x Second-Team All-Pro. From about 2017-2024, you couldn't find a right tackle in the game more consistently dominant than Lane Johnson. He's one of the best to ever play the position, and he's one of the greatest Eagles ever.

He's had his fair share of injuries. He's had some roadblocks along the way. And obviously we knew heading into this season that it would be the last year of Lane Johnson's career. It would have been great to send him out with a storybook ending, but things just didn't go that way. He had to miss some time during camp for personal reasons, and then he had to miss this past week's game against LA for personal reasons seemingly right before the game started.

We don't know exactly what those personal reasons are, but it doesn't matter. Lane Johnson was the ultimate Eagle, and he deserves to have as much or as little privacy as he wants when it comes to his personal life. All that matters is that Lane Johnson is making the best decision for himself right now. I'm sure a huge part of his decision to even come back at all this year was for the team, and for the fans. I'm sure he thought he could help the team achieve the goals that they had for themselves, and that the fans would love to see one more ride.

But now he's making the decision for himself to retire, and yeah, it definitely puts the Eagles in a weird spot. This is the 2nd year in a row now where the Eagles have had guys retire right in the middle of the season. It just seems like there's not that culture in the locker room right now that makes guys feel like it's healthy for them to stick around and see out the rest of the year. Landon Dickerson is dealing with injuries. Cam Jurgens seems like he simply cannot play football at the moment. Fred Johnson is hurt. Drew Kendall just became a starting center a couple weeks ago. Tyler Steen is false start machine. And now Lane Johnson has retired. It's just crazy how quickly things can change in the NFL when just 2 years ago, we were talking about the Eagles having one of the most dominant offensive lines ever.

It was a helluva ride for 65. The final piece still here from that Super Bowl LII. End of an era for sure.

There's a gold jacket and a jersey retirement ceremony waiting for him in the future.
