Definition Of Clutch: Tom Kim Shoots A 64 During The Final Round, Wins Gold At The Asian Games To Earn Exemption From Mandatory Military Service
I blogged about this yesterday going into the final round. The stakes were simple. Tom Kim was up 1 going into the final round, needed to win to earn exemption from mandatory military service. Well, here we go with the final round and the moment:
Yeah, that rocks. You can see what it means. I mean the guy almost medaled at the Olympics, which would have earned him an exemption. Then he went right from the Presidents Cup where he was damn good, to this. I can't imagine the pressure of having to put together a round to keep your life the same. Every tap-in putt probably felt like a 12-footer downhill. I can't imagine sleeping the night before knowing what you had to do.
Coming through a 64 is the definition of clutch. I don't care if it's the Asian Games or whatever. When you have your normal life on the line? Yeah, winning that will do it. It wasn't a runaway either. He ended up winning by 3 shots. That's not comfortable enough going into 18. I'd need to be up by 20 strokes on that tee just to feel comfortable. Either way, shout out Tom Kim. That's one hell of a round and one hell of a win.
