John Calipari's Plan To Save College Sports - Brag About Having 9 Players Make More Money Than All Of His Assistant Coaches

It's that time of the year where every coach is trying to 'save' college sports. It's not just Calipari, you hear it from basically everyone. Coaches want more guardrails put in place so they can try and keep players easier. Again, to me, it's simple. It's the transfer portal, not NIL as the problem. I think every player should get 1 free transfer and then you can transfer for free (without sitting out) again if your coach leaves. That makes it fair for all parties involved.

What doesn't hit is bragging about how much money your guys make:

This is Calipari's version of the Packers Sweep. The moment he brings up money, it's recruiting 101. I'm not even knocking him here. It's just hilarious to hear a guy who is getting paid nearly $8 million a year talk about how much his guys are getting paid. I don't think anyone in the world cares about how much guys are getting paid. We only care so we can make fun of teams for not winning a title if they spend a bunch of money. That's all it comes down to.

But, this? This is Calipari doing his 'look how many NBA guys I have' or talking about how much his guys make in the NBA. I'm well-versed in Cal speech. As much as I want him to lose every single game these days, he's still the best at sliding in a comment about how much his guys make. It's what he thrives on. Wonder if he knows he could negotiate higher pay for his assistants? Just fixed one issue for him.
