THE PHILADELPHIA FIGHTIN' PHILLIES AIN'T HEAR NO BELL, AND ALEC BOHM SENDS THIS SERIES TO A GAME 3
Rob Tringali. Getty Images. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place. And I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it.
And when Bryce Harper missed this routine fly ball in the bottom of the 7th, it looked like life had finally beaten this era of Phillies baseball to death. It looked like this was it for this group that showed so much hope and promise just a few short years ago.
For it to end with Bryce Harper--the Showman, the MVP, the crown jewel of this whole thing--being the one to mess up and have it all come crashing down? It felt like a dagger straight through the heart, balls, and taint.
BUT…It ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving foward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. THAT'S HOW WINNING IS DONE!!!
Kyle Schwarber steps up to the plate to leadoff the 8th inning and immediately injects some juice back into this Phillies team. It felt like a funeral for approximately 7 minutes, but the only bell Kyle Schwarber hears is the one he's ringing himself.
And then here comes Bryce Harper. An immediate shot at redemption. An immediate chance to make up for his blunder in right field, and to put the team on his back as he's done so many times before in the postseason. A chance to say, "my bad, but I'm still that mother fucking guy".
Holy shit did he deliver. Back-to-back jacks and we've got a tie ball game. The Phillies were dead. They were lying on the pavement, crime scene tape roping off the area, a line of chalk drawn around the body. They were dead, but then they immediately came back to life. And here's some bad, bad news for the Atlanta Braves--you cannot kill that which is already dead. They had a chance to put the Phillies away for good, but they couldn't close the door.
HERE COMES BOHMER.
Alec Bohm. Top of the 10th. The swing of his life. Here comes Alec Bohm to steal that game from Atlanta just like his parents tried to steal all the money out of his bank account. What a moment for Bohmer. What a moment for this Phillies team. A little bit of magic right before the calendar flips over to October. All of the pressure immediately flips over to Atlanta. They found themselves in a fight for their lives after they were just 2 innings away from advancing. The Phillies got a great performance out of Christopher Sanchez, and an unbelievable outing out of Andrew Painter after throwing 6 straight balls to start his day. So you still have Wheeler and Nola for game 3 with a chance to end the Braves' season again for the 3rd time in 5 years.
IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE WORTH, GO AND GET WHAT YOU'RE WORTH!!!
