Westeros Is Coming To The Big Screen, As The First 'Game Of Thrones' Movie Is FINALLY Set To Hit Theaters In 2029
I'm SHOCKED it took this long to happen. The TV franchise that's had the biggest special effects, some of the highest budgets of all time, and an unparalleled cinematic feel will officially become, well...cinema. Cue the Scorsese meme.
Giphy Images.'Game of Thrones' had one hell of a hot streak this year between the success of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' and 'House of the Dragon' Season 3. And now, they're capitalizing on that momentum by developing a full-length feature film that'll arrive in theaters a little under three years from now.
The movie is set to be directed by Owen Harris, who directed half of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 1, including the penultimate and best episode of the season (which featured the INSANE Trial of the Seven battle). The screenplay will be written by 'House of Cards' creator Beau Willimon. He also was a writer on 'Andor,' and trust me, if you haven't seen that show, you have no idea what you're missing out on. It's arguably the best writing in any Star Wars project ever. So fucking good.
Sidenote: 'Andor' is also where I developed an insane crush on Adria Arjona. I was so pissed because I was at the New York office a couple weeks ago when she popped in to film some content with Feitelberg. I was leaving the building for a little bit to go do a commercial shoot in Jersey City, and as I was getting in my Uber, she was getting out of her car to walk into the office. And I was too much of a pussy to go out of my way and say hello. I just looked out the car window like a loser as my Uber driver pulled away. That anecdote has absolutely nothing to do with this blog, but it was an experience that I had to share because it still weighs on me a shit ton. Clearly.
Back to Thrones, though, this story should be EPIC. It will tell the tale of Aegon the Conqueror, who took over Westeros before ultimately creating the Iron Throne. He was also the one who originated the "Prince Who Was Promised" prophecy. He knew war against the White Walkers was inevitable, but there would come a savior who was meant to protect the realm from eternal darkness. This prophecy, of course, ties into both 'Game of Thrones' and 'House of the Dragon,' and it serves as a major plot device in HOTD Season 1, specifically.
So it'll serve as the ultimate prequel to everything we've seen in the Thrones universe thus far, and I have no doubt it will be worth it. Every Sunday feels like a movie premiere whenever a new episode of Thrones comes out, so it makes sense for them to just make a damn movie for once. I am so stoked for it.
And for anybody who isn't stoked because they still have a big dump in their pants over the Season 8 ending, I highly recommend you quit bitching and get back on the wagon. It's been 7 years. Hike up your skirt and move on. That is all.
