Former Auburn Staffer Arrested on Felony Charges for Leaking Information to Opponents Who Then Immediately Turned Him In to Auburn

Football Scoop — A former Auburn football staffer is in jail this week on felony charges that he stole the program’s trade secrets and sent confidential recruiting information to competing schools — a development that landed four days before the Tigers visit Tennessee.⁠

David Rudolph Jenrath, 24, of Franklin, Tennessee, turned himself in to the Auburn Police Department on Monday, Sept. 28, and was booked into the Lee County Jail on $15,000 bond. He is charged with theft of trade secrets and computer tampering, both felonies.Police say the case originated from a report at the 300 block of South Donahue Drive, the address of the Auburn Athletics Department, that sensitive information had been taken and distributed to competitors. One of those competitors received the material and turned it back over to Auburn. Investigators identified Jenrath as the suspect and obtained warrants.⁠ Charging documents allege that while employed by Auburn, Jenrath retained confidential athletics information and transmitted those trade secrets without consent. The computer-tampering charge accuses him of disclosing, using, controlling or taking computer programs and data “with the intent to harass Auburn University Athletics by disclosing trade secrets of Auburn University Athletics to their opponents.”

What a story. A low-level Auburn staffer — now a student at Tennessee — seemingly went rogue in a turncoat operation against the Tigers, only for the schools he leaked information to turn right around and let Auburn know they had a criminal traitor in their midst. That has to be a real kick in the dick when you thought you were pulling off a college football heist.

It doesn't help this kid that he looks like an SEC Jeffrey Dahmer with a pinch of Dwight Schrute thrown in for good measure.

Of all the information to steal and turn over to opponents, are Auburn's recruiting evaluations really what you're going with? If you got your hands on the game plan for this week and sent it over to Tennessee, maybe that's something worth considering for an opponent. But you're risking multiple felonies for a couple paragraphs on a 3-star safety? This joker deserved to get turned in.

This kid is in jail because he's a moron, not because he broke the law. If he sent Alabama information actually worthwhile on the Auburn football program, he'd have a six-figure job right now. But he sent over some glorified Rivals evals and now he has a couple felony charges and a $15,000 bond.
