The Mariners Fired Their Manager Dan Wilson Immediately After Their Last Game And Then Made HIM Announce It To The Media Post Game

Bravo job done here by the Mariners organization, firing their manager directly after game 162 in which they were honoring another Mariners legend. Not only did they fire Dan Wilson, they basically made HIM tell the media that he will not be coming back as manager. Now he didn't say the words "I was fired" but you can read between the lines of what he was saying, if he stepped down he would have said "I'm stepping down". This decision as made for him, that's pretty obvious. Such a weird way for it to go down, it fits in line with the Mariners org and how they do business but man, what a low blow. Wilson had to sit down in front of the media and read off a letter thanking everyone for their support, thanking them for everything and telling the media his family would still call Seattle home as he choked up. You felt for the guy, but the fact that this is how Mariners fans and media found out is wild. The whole weekend was spent honoring their legendary broadcaster Rick Rizzs who had been behind the mic for 41 years, but now the story is Wilson and the fact that he's no longer going to be their manager. And no one is complaining that he was fired, the Mariners underachieved massively this year. Almost in the World Series last year to 76-86 this season. Couldn't ever get over that hump, Cal Raleigh jinxed them in the WBC by not shaking Randy's hand, Julio Rodriguez suffered a concussion on July 3rd and was never the same, it all went wrong for Seattle. It's just the way that this was done and handled. Look at the timestamps, the Mariners tweeted out their graphic at 6:47 PM and the reporter's video was tweeted at 6:43 PM. Kind of wild for their PR staff to let this happen like that and leave their old franchise icon out to dry like that. Again, no one is saying he shouldn't have lost his job, it's the whole process int which it went down and how people found out. Just very bad taste to do it on the day that was supposed to be for Rizzs, why couldn't this have waited until today or later this week. Had to do it right away and wash away all the celebration your fans had for Rizzs? They said that he was offered another position within the organization, but that seems like a move to try and save face. 

POBO Jerry Dipoto should also have been the one to go, and he also should have been up there on that podium to answer questions about the firing but instead he hid like always. That's public enemy #1 in Seattle, it sucks Wilson got canned and things didn't go their way, but I think a lot of blame can be pointed right at Dipoto. Cowardly and classless move by the Mariners front office to leave Wilson out to dry while he gave a tearful goodbye after announcing his own firing.
