Max Scherzer Refusing To Leave The Game At 104 Pitches Is Why Late Regular Season Baseball Is Great

Listen, you gotta love baseball. You particularly love it on the final day of the season when absolutely nothing is in play for a majority of teams not named the Phillies, Diamondbacks, Rangers, or Astros. The rest of them are just going out there for the hell of it. The Yankees game got cancelled due to the Nor'easter and they said yeah we're not rescheduling that junk.

So we get moments like these which was objectively cool to see by Schneider and Scherzer. I know he had no intentions of actually pulling him and was just ovation farming, but it's still a cool moment. Scherzer and Verlander both being done in two consecutive days feels like your childhood is just getting ripped from you. Those were two of the best to ever do it and we got to witness greatness for decades with those fellas. Special stuff.

They shoulda just let Scherzer go out on his sword to catch Verlander. I think he ended a few strikeouts short of him, so if this is it, you gotta just let him go out there and throw 140-150 pitches. He was dealing and you're up a couple of runs anyway, so fuck it, just let him go out there and have some fun with it.
