'Chad Powers' Has No Business Being This Good, And If This Show Doesn't Get Renewed For a Third Season It'll Be a Crime Against Humanity
Disney. Getty Images. When the idea of Chad Powers the TV show first came around, I admittedly rolled my eyes. Did they really need to make a show about an Eli Manning skit? Turns out the answer was a resounding yes. We're now two seasons through this thing and all I could want is more. My only actual complaint from the most recent season was that it was only six episodes. Maybe the whole less is more charm is why the quality is elite, but I was ready to settle in for ten episodes easily.
This show has no business being as good as it is. None! You dive into season one and are immediately hit with some legit toeing the line comedy that kinda hits you like a breath of fresh air. Season two they keep it rolling while also injecting some legitimate soul and story into the plot. I love it.
For me, what really makes the show is how good the supporting characters/unknown actors are. You knew going in that Glen Powell and Steve Zahn were going to deliver. Sure it was quite a different role than Powell is used to playing, but he's a fantastic actor so I had minimal doubts. What they needed to put it all together was to nail Coach Ricky, Tricia, Danny, and Gerry. Whoever was in charge of casting here knocked it out of the park.
This continues to be a break out performance for Perry Mattfeld. Season two begins to really focus on her as she weighs the moral dilemma now knowing Chad's secret, debating whether she wants to be an accomplice, and figuring out her own future. She's a star.

This whole show doesn't work if her chemistry with Glen Powell is off, but obviously it's the complete opposite.

At the end of the season we find out her intentions and that leaves us on a true cliff hanger that makes you angry the season is over —pretty good sign the show has your interest. All I want to know is what's next.
Even Gerry went from a throwaway character you never thought of to someone with a main seat at the table, becoming the show's villain. Colton Ryan did a great job this season.

Is it a show that takes out of the box thinking to understand? Are you running to Reddit to read fan theories? No, but it's a thoroughly enjoyable watch that doesn't take itself too seriously, with laugh out loud moments, solid character arc, and a storyline you care about. Michael Waldron has put a tremendous amount of effort in here and it doesn't go unnoticed. If there's a doubt about whether a season three should be made, shame on those people. Give me a season three or I'll fucking riot. Go Fish.
P.S. Powell and Zahn came in our office last week for a Chicks interview. Give it a watch!
