Rex Ryan Declaring the Jets 'are BACK!" After One Game is Sweet Music to These Ears
Boy oh boy, is it ever strange feeling to wake up with the Patriots in last place in the AFC East and the Jets tied for first. I never thought I'd live to see the day. Wait. The day is September 14th? Disregard. I ask that testimony be stricken for the record.
Listen, the Jets earned it. They went on the road and not only won, they won decidedly. They outgained the Titans by 172 yards. And as a result, they had the all too familiar experience of crushing the soul of Robert Saleh:
The poor guy. He just can't seem to get a head coaching job (.351 winning %) without being frustrated with the Jets.
But that's his cross to bear. What would matter to me if I'm a Jets fan (and by the grace of God I am not) is that they got a win. No matter if it was against the NFL's worst team in 2025. I'd just focus on Aaron Glenn being undefeated, and earning the right to party like he's 0-7:
And Jets being the Jets, this means that it's never too early to get way out over their skis over this. Certainly Rex Ryan and Mike Greenberg have their heads all the way between the tips of their Stocklis:
“It was amazing how… look at all those explosive pass plays, Ryan says. "Amazing how that happens right there. You got a real coaching staff right there. Frank Reich, man, congratulations that offense was amazing… this is a 32nd ranked team in passing last year, didn’t look like and by the way, they bloodied their nose they ran right down that old superstar coach of yours that everybody was like why’d they fire him, I don’t know, 35 win percentage. He got smoked right there by the Jets and we’re back. The Jets are back.” That chryon about Greenberg calling it "the most pleasant surprise," because they beat a 3-14 team. I love it. How I do love it so.
This is where the magic happens. For all intents and purposes, the Jets may have even cost themselves the No. 1 overall pick. Meaning their quarterback of the future could be Geno Smith. Again. Like he was when they drafted him, 13 years ago.
But that doesn't matter right now. They're all in on this 2026 edition already. They're going to enjoy this sugar rush for as long as it lasts, never mind the crash that follows. Just like when they signed Aaron Rodgers. Or drafted Zach Wilson. Or Sam Darnold. Or when the reached the peak of the last 25 years by going to the AFC Championship game twice under Rex, and got no further.
I'm not proud that I get so perverse pleasure out of watching them get their hopes up, onto see them crash and burn. But I have to admit, it never gets old.
I don't worry about Rexy and Greeny. They've been living with this. They're adults. They can handle the disappointment that's surely to come. But I do feel for this young lad:

He's got his whole life as a disappointed Jets fan ahead of him. Enjoy the feeling of being tied for first while it lasts, young man.
