USA! USA! USA! Ben Shelton Is Into The US Open Final, Where He'll Try to Become The First American Man To Win a Grand Slam Since 2003
CHARLY TRIBALLEAU. Getty Images.Ben Shelton just pulled through against fellow American Frances Tiafoe to reach his first ever US Open final. The 23 year old will play for history on Sunday against Alexander Zverev. It's officially his time.
Really mature match from Ben, who never really felt in trouble here despite dropping the first set. Tiafoe gave it whatever he could still, just not enough unfortunately for Big Foe.
Shelton's game continues to get better and better the more we see him. It's CRAZY to see how far he's come when it comes to return and rallies. He'll always have the monster serve and boy did he have it on Friday night..
*the gun was off on this one and it was ONLY 144, but still what a rocket. His serve was fantastic Friday night.
The rest of Ben's game, however, is the reason you're seeing this success.

So now it all comes down to Sunday. Can Ben push American men's tennis over the hump and claim their first slam title since Roddick in 2003? Fritz failed here a few years ago, not putting up much of a fight against Sinner. With Zverev on the other side I like Ben's chances to make this a legit match, even though he's yet to beat him in his career. That was the case against Carlos as well and you saw what happened.
He's going to need the whole crowd, and he's absolutely going to get it against Zverev. Might be the most one-sided fan support you'll ever see in a slam final. I cannot wait. LETS GO BEN!!!!
P.S. It's fucking moronic they have this men's final every year in the middle of the first NFL Sunday. Totally avoidable and they refuse to change it. Am I going to watch? Yes, I'll have it on a screen while I follow football on another, but this had the chance to get a big number of Americans to watch who normally wouldn't. Rivaling the NFL you have chance with that.
