The Internet is DIVIDED Over Noah Eagle's Australian Pronunciation of The Word "Melbourne"
Big drama out of Australia last night. You might be surprised to learn people online actually have very strong opinions on the way Noah Eagle pronounces Australia's largest city. There appear to be two schools of thought:
1. Australian's pronounce it "Melbin", therefore Noah Eagle was being professional.
2. It's like when a news anchor pinches his fingers together and breaks into an Italian accent out nowhere, but only for the word 'Spaghetti'
With us and Australia, the line between language is even more blurred. English and Italian are entirely different. English and Australian are both English. Except for a handful of their more whimsical words. Friends are mates. Sausages are snags. Friends are cunts. Fosters is beer. Pretty sure they have their own unique slurs. But for the most part we're speaking the same language with different accents.
Personally, I wish Noah Eagle was even more Australian. I prefer my announcers to flirt with line between respectful and racist. Really lean into the word mate. Make multiple references to Outback Steakhouse menu items. Make two too many jokes about a dingo eating your baby, and at least one pretty inappropriate barb at Steve Irwin. And come back from every commercial break upside down (Twitter really loved that bit last night, huh?)

I want the fact that the game is being played in Melbin, Australia shoved down by throat harder than an Aussie shoves down a traditional Bloomin' Onion.
But that's just me. Apparently some people were fed up with Noah Eagle saying Melbin over and over. To each their own. Personally, I hope we get Noah Eagle on a call somewhere in Japan next year. I'm dying to hear what he does with Yokohama.
