Man Sentenced To Jail After He Successfully Caught His Wife Cheating Using a Roomba With a Camera
Yahoo! –To gather concrete and undeniable evidence of the suspected infidelity, the desperate husband cleverly utilized the integrated camera and audio features of their robotic vacuum cleaner.
Roughly three months after discovering the initial clues, he remotely activated the smart appliance through a mobile application on his smartphone. While he originally planned to use the audio function to communicate with his wife, the live video feed unexpectedly captured her in a highly intimate encounter with another man.
Realizing he had successfully caught them in the act, he immediately began recording the live digital footage to save as proof.
The recorded video allegedly showed the woman changing her clothes and embracing her lover while moving around the living room completely unclothed. Armed with this undeniable digital evidence, the husband felt incredibly confident that he had everything he needed to successfully sue the cheating pair for completely destroying his marriage.
Should that be fair play? Yes? My first thought was "well clearly a man should have the right to install cameras in his own home". But then I remembered bathrooms. So obviously there's some sort of line there. It is very much not legal to install a tiny hidden camera in your downstairs toilet and secretly record your guest's vaginas when they use the restroom. There's something called "reasonable expectation of privacy". So I suppose it might be reasonable to expect your family Roomba to not be recording your every move.
But for what it's worth, this man did not rig his Roomba with a camera (I'm not sure it was technically a Roomba, but Roomba has reached Kleenex levels of branding when it comes to robot vacuums imo). This particular "Roomba" comes with a camera and an app you can use to access it. One could argue the wife should have known about the capabilities of this robot living in her home.
For a little while, this man probably feltlike a genius. He had won. Well... aside from the fact that he'd been cuckolded by a more sexually satisfying male. But he caught his wife in the act. He had proof. He took his wife to civil court to sue her for "damages". He didn't get all the money he asked for, but he walked out of civil court $15K USD richer.
He filed a formal lawsuit against his wife and her partner for blatantly infringing on his marital rights, initially seeking the equivalent of sixty eight thousand dollars in damages.
The presiding judge reviewed the explicit vacuum footage and concluded that their secret relationship had clearly gone far beyond an ordinary friendship. Because the digital evidence was so conclusive, the court officially sided with the husband and ordered the guilty pair to pay up.
He ultimately won roughly fifteen thousand dollars in financial compensation for the severe emotional distress caused by the ongoing affair.
But THEN his wife took him to double court. At double court, she filed a countersuit accusing her cuckee of secretly (and illegally) recording her. The judge agreed. He said, "This homewrecking harlot still has rights. Cheating on your husband does not supersede her fundamental right to privacy within her home" (paraphrased)
The judge also specified that the tiny flashing red dot on the Roomba to show it was recording was not enough to prove her consent to being recorded.
In his legal defense, the husband argued that the civil court had already accepted the vacuum footage as legitimate evidence, but the criminal court completely rejected this argument. The judge firmly ruled that marital obligations absolutely do not supersede an individual's fundamental right to privacy within a private home.
Consequently, the husband was officially sentenced to five months in prison and hit with a hefty financial fine for illegally recording private and intimate images.
In conclusion, this man was cheated on. Caught his wife in the act. Won $15k in court. Then was handed a 5 month prison sentence. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions. This is all in Thailand too. Which means that $15k goes a long way. It also means the jail might look like this

That's a high stakes affair. Moral of the story – if you catch your wife cheating in Thailand, don't bring the courts into it. Who the hell knows what stance Thailand will take on the issue. It's a crap shoot. Even their judges don't seem to be on the same page. And behind bars in Thailand looks scary as hell. I'm not sure if this guy is necessarily going to one of the terrible ones, but I wouldn't take any chances.
