Stay Hot, San Francisco: 35-Year-Old Man Scammed 26 Different Women For $1.3 Million By Pretending To Be A Wide Receiver On The 49ers
SFGate -- Two men have been arrested following an alleged yearslong romance fraud scheme in which one pretended to be a San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, prosecutors said.
Daejon Labrayae Love and Taylor Jamie Chan were booked on Monday on suspicion of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Authorities said the men conned at least 26 people to the tune of $1.3 million thanks, in part, to social media photos of Love posing in 49ers gear.
...Screenshots from the criminal complaint show an Instagram profile filled with pictures of Love decked out in 49ers apparel and posing next to expensive sports cars. The account came complete with a bio reading, “Grind don’t stop. Suisse made. NFL Wide Receiver @49ers #undrafted Trust god.” — a near-perfect imitation of a professional athlete’s social media profile.
You know what? I'm a sucker for effort. I can respect a piece of shit if they are actually putting in the work. There are a lot of scumbags out there scamming people by doing the bare minimum. Stealing credit cards and passwords and all that. But this fella right here? I'm not saying I agree with what he did. But the work that it took to pull off this scam is impressive. He had to create an entire fake career, and cosplay as an NFL wideout for god knows how long.
And it was almost the perfect scheme. If he just kept this to like 5-10 different women, he could have milked this and got away with it for years. But if I had to guess, the only reason he ended up getting caught is because he got too greedy. Conning 26 different women means that at least one of these women had a guy friend who would blow up his spot immediately.
Where did he play in college? Why is this dude driving around and bringing his helmet with him literally everywhere he goes?
And most importantly--if he's playing for the 49ers, then why hasn't he suffered a major injury by now? If the substation hasn't gotten him by now then clearly he's not actually on the team. But to anyone who doesn't actually follow football, and just wants to be romantically involved with a professional athlete? They wouldn't know that. They'd see the helmet, they'd see the jewelry, they'd see the team issued gear he probably just bought from his local Dick's Sporting Goods, and they'd buy it.
But again, the man just got too carried away. All it would take is for one adult male to watch this clip and realize this mother fucker isn't a receiver in the NFL.

It's a real shame, too, because now would actually be the perfect opportunity for him to try to actually weasel his way onto the team. The owner is out paying for sex in the middle of Ohio. At the very least, he could sneak his way into the building while the organization is distracted with that fiasco and grab some great photos to solidify his lies. It's a funny world we live in, isn't it? The guy who owns the 49ers is paying for sex. Meanwhile, the guy pretending to just be on the team has racked up $1.3 million by scamming 26 different women. I don't know exactly what that says about society, but it's definitely something.
