This High School Football Coach in California Was Fired After Kicking a Football Directly Into His Player's Nuts
“I kicked the ball and it hit him in the groin area and instantly I felt like I was going to pass out. I feel obviously a great deal of remorse for what happened. It's a one in a million shot. He's a great kid, but he's intense. We've had at least a dozen conversations about not taking kids to the ground during team drills.” - Coach Adam Brubaker.
In translation – "I'm sorry the one in a million shot of me hurting a fully padded football player by kicking a football actually happened. But he was being a shit head."
There are a whole lot of people in the replies crying assault on that football coach. A lot of people who seem genuinely disgusted by what they've witnessed in this video. People who claim they'd be filing a lawsuit. I can maybe understand from the school's perspective why they'd have to let that football coach go. Even if it was a one in a million shot, he did something that resulted in a player writhing on the ground in pain. They are in California after all. I can see why a California school might just want to cover their asses in a situation like that. However... in response to people saying things of this nature...
I can't speak for anyone else, but unless my child has been rendered sterile. Or he needs emergency dick removal surgery. Or the coach is using my son to recreate Jackass.
Unless that's happening, I'm pretty ok with his high school football coach kicking a ball at him if he refuses to listen time and time again. If my son refuses to stop taking his teammates to the ground in drills where he's not supposed to do so, he should be taught a lesson to some degree. If you're tackling teammates when they're not expecting it, that's pretty dangerous in its own right. I'd say it's equally, if not more dangerous than having a ball kicked at you from 5 yards away.
And it teaches my kid a valuable lesson about wearing a cup. Do kids not wear cups anymore? I only played tackle football through 8th grade, but I had a teammate who in the middle of practice would randomly yell "cup check!" and backhand you right in the nuts. If you had your cup on, you were fine. If not… well then it kind of hurt. But you did get to make fun of him for wanting to touch your dick.
Anyways… wear a cup. Listen to your coaches. Don't kick footballs at players if you're coaching a high school in California. If a football team can adhere to those terms, all of this can be avoided.
