The Internet Is OUTRAGED Over Rocco Becht's Easy Class Schedule At Penn State, So Much So That U.S. Senators Are Getting Involved
This whole Rocco Becht situation has been COMPLETELY overblown. I gotta defend my QB1 here.
The other day, Becht was asked by a reporter (who actually used to be a professor of mine) what his course load would look like this upcoming fall at Penn State. His answer caught like wildfire on Twitter, because he said that he would only be taking one online class that he hasn't even picked out yet. The semester starts next week.
He didn't do himself any favors by sharing that he doesn't know what class it'll be. I'll admit that. But the internet has taken the soundbite and spun it to fit the narrative that Rocco Becht couldn't give a fuck about school. That the concept of being a "student-athlete" is gone forever. Blah blah blah.
By the way, I know who runs the BFW Show Twitter account. I gotta talk to them about spreading such misleading propaganda.
I also have to talk to all the people quote tweeting the original video just so they can troll Rocco for wearing a choker. Newsflash, imbeciles. It's a fucking headband. Players wear it around their neck all the time before and after practice. Find a new slant.
You even had a damn Louisiana senator coming out of the clouds to say that we needed to do a better job of protecting the student-athlete ideals. Rocco's dad swiftly responded with one hell of a takedown. He hit him with the "Stay in your lane" like he was LaVar Ball on The Herd. What a line.
Rocco's mom also chimed in on the matter. But instead of going directly at the senator or any of the haters online, she decided to change her Twitter profile pic to a snapshot of Rocco walking at graduation. With his diploma in hand. A savvy, savvy move by Momma Becht.

Shoutout to Mr. and Mrs. Becht, man. I've never met them, and Rocco hasn't even played a single snap for Penn State yet. But I already like how this family rolls. They mean business.
I wanna revisit Mrs. Becht's profile picture, though, because I think a lot of people are overlooking the fact that Rocco HAS ALREADY GRADUATED! This whole idea that he's not even pretending to care about school is ridiculous considering he's already received a full college education at Iowa State. Now he's taking EXTRA courses post-grad to obtain certification or to pursue a Master's degree down the line.
If your argument is that it's bullshit how a player can graduate from a university and still play college football, I don't know what to tell ya. Graduate transfers have been a thing for as long as I've been watching the sport. This is not new. What you should be worried about are the fucking professional athletes in NFL training camp right now who are coming back to play college ball. I think that's more of an eligibility concern than Rocco Becht only taking one course this semester.
Besides, he's still gonna have 12 credits by the time the semester is over, which would be the minimum requirement to be a full-time student. It just seems like he's knocking the bulk of those credits out now during the summertime to get ahead of schedule.
Again, this is not new. College football players across the country have tinkered with their class schedules for DECADES. Not even in a shady way, either. Sure, I bet there are some colleges that have bent the rules so their football players can get phony degrees. But I don't even think this is bending the rules. This is just spacing out your credits a bit differently.
Matt Leinart only took one class in his final year at USC, and it was fucking ballroom dancing. That was over 20 years ago. But in his defense, he had already fulfilled his academic requirements, and that easy art credit was specifically structured to be the last thing that he needed. Rocco Becht has already fulfilled his academic requirements and then some, and now this one course in the fall is structured in that same vein. I don't see why this is still such a big deal.

I structured my college course load so that my last semester was light and ridiculously easy. Granted, I wasn't a student-athlete, but does that mean that I wasn't even a student period ? Is my degree a total farce??? Of course not. So why are we judging Rocco Becht for having an easy semester in his fifth year, especially when he already HAS a degree?
I know people like to get outraged over the stupidest shit. I know people like to yell that college sports are being ruined right in front of our very eyes. But I assure you, this is not an example of that. Go touch grass.
