Nick Kyrgios Has Tested Positive For Cocaine And Been Suspended, The Tennis World Has Wasted No Time Dancing On His Grave

There was a time where his level of play, highlighted by an incredible serve, and unique "fuck you" personality was a breath of fresh air in a typical buttoned up sport. His peak level of play, however, usually left you wanting more. Nick's lack of focus and unwillingness to get in shape constantly got in the way of his potential. Finally in 2022 he decided to care, which resulted in him winning a grand slam title in doubles at Australia while later reaching the final at Wimbledon where he would lose to Djokovic. For one year we got a glimpse of what it all could have looked like if he gave a shit. Deep runs, a good attitude, and a clean bill of health. He cracked the top 20 in the world rankings and became a player you didn't want to face in your draw. Unfortunately for Nick, injuries and off the court issues always seemed to get in the way of his tennis success outside of that year. Well, when you're as boisterous as Kyrgios is, people pray for your downfalls and celebrate the failures. Today the tennis world, filled with Nick haters, is partying like they just won Wimbledon themselves.
Is it the most shocking thing in the world that a guy like Kyrgios got popped for cocaine? Not exactly, but boy are people going back to his old quotes and dancing on his grave.

Is there a difference in someone getting popped for steroids and cocaine? Of course, but you give people this kind of ammo to throw back at you and they'll never stop. While I hoped the 2022 version of Nick would last longer, his career sadly seemed destined to crash and burn like this eventually. Sucks because he was a really fun player to watch when he had his head together, but like I said that never seemed to last. Nick has barely been playing tennis as it is, working his way back from a number of injuries including his wrist, and I can't imagine he even tries for much longer.
