Alabama High School Football Coach Resigns After Being Arrested for Public Intoxication While Trying To Impersonate a Reporter To Scout His Week 1 Opponent From the Sideline

WHNT — A now-former coach at Guntersville High School resigned from his position after he was accused of being intoxicated by law enforcement during a jamboree football game.

Arab Police said that a man identified as Jerry Fulks approached officers and identified himself as a member of the media to request access to the sideline during an Arab High School Jamboree Football game on Friday, Aug. 14

According to authorities, officers suspected that Fulks was intoxicated and escorted him out of the stadium. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Fulks was intoxicated.

He was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Marshall County Jail.

I was reliably informed "woke" was over, but it seems to still be alive and well in Arab, Alabama.

What is the crime here? Being too dedicated to one's craft? Trying to help too many kids achieve their dreams and reach their full potential as student-athletes? Conor Stalions did this — though presumably sober — and was hailed as a hero by his community.

Getting booked into county for having a couple cold ones and pretending to be a reporter in an attempt to gain an edge on the high school gridiron is something I'd expect of the People's Republic of California, but it seems truly nowhere is safe anymore.

Now the hard-working kids of the Guntersville Wildcats are without their defensive coordinator just days before their season opener against the Arab Knights — I swear that is the real name of the team. What a shame.
