Ketel Marte Went M.I.A. And Didn't Show Up To Fenway Park Last Night, Which Had Manager Torey Lovullo In Tears Trying To Talk About The Situation - Now Marte Is On His Way To Arizona For An MRI?
Icon Sportswire. Getty Images.Last night the Diamondbacks lineup was not released until just a few minutes before first pitch in Fenway. Odd for sure, as you typically know that information hours before the game is scheduled to start. Typically that means a roster move is coming, and in a normal situation either spelling a last minute scratch or IL decision to be announced. This was not that. We soon learned Ketel Marte had been placed on the restricted list and was nowhere to be found.
Absolutely bizarre. Even stranger, manger Torey Lovullo got pretty emotional after the game while talking to the media.
Obviously we didn't know exactly what was going on and it's tough to speculate, but it's pretty concerning that the team didn't seem to know what the deal was as well. Marte had posted this on his IG while the team plane arrived in Boston.
Last year Marte's home in Arizona was robbed during the All Star Game. He then missed three games after the break as he flew down to the Dominican Republic.
Full text - I do not know if the situations are similar BUT last season after the All-Star break as most of you remember Ketel Marte was penciled in the lineup for the Friday game at St. Louis. He was a no-show and no one in the organization knew where he was. His absence was not planned. It was not approved. He was not answering calls. He eventually responded to a threat of suspension by answering from the Dominican Republic. He did travel to Boston with the team last night and was penciled into the lineup today starting at DH but was a no show. It is the reason why the lineup was delayed until right before game time.

From the baseball side of things, it's gotta be frustrating for the the organization to have your player go M.I.A. like this in two consecutive seasons, right after you hand him a six year $116.5M extension in the beginning of the 2025 season.
You can sense some frustration with GM Mike Hazen here, who did reveal Marte was still in Boston.
(AZ Central) Reached over the phone later in the evening, Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said Marte was still in Boston. Hazen said he was not sure when Marte might rejoin the team. Asked if he was upset about the way things played out, Hazen was short.
“It’s unfortunate he wasn’t there tonight,” he said. “I’ll leave it at that.”
Well today we found out he was still dealing with a personal situation as of this morning, but everyone was fine.
Translation: Source: Ketel Marte remains in Boston, dealing with a personal situation. He and his family are fine. Marte has been in communication with the Diamondbacks through the appropriate channels and hopes to resolve his matter as soon as possible to return to playing baseball.
And now he's heading home to get an MRI on his knee. Keep in mind Nolan Arenado was able to get an MRI in Boston the other day. Why Marte has to fly home to get one is anyone's guess.
What the fuck is actually happening here? I don't want to be that guy who pokes holes in a story where I clearly don't know what's actually going on, but we're supposed to believe Torey Lovullo was in TEARS while talking about Ketel Marte's injured knee? You don't just get placed on the restricted list for fun. I get that hypothetically a guy being forced to play through an injury he doesn't want to isn't a great situation, but come on. This has to be a cover up for something else. It has to be. All of this is happening while the Diamondbacks are just a game out of the 3rd wild card spot in the NL. They're now going to be without one of their best players for the time being, maybe the rest of the year. What is happening?
