Now Would Be A Great Time To Stop Putting Microphones On Little League Coaches After This Fella Told His Pitcher It Would Be Fine To Walk The Next 5 Batters
I don't remember exactly when it happened, but I'm sure there one beautifully compassionate moment between a little league coach and his pitcher at the Little League World Series a few years ago that captured the heart of America. A moment where a coach went up to his pitcher, assured him that everything was going to be alright, and that made sure the kid knew he still loved him and was proud of him no matter what happens up there. It's the exact message that everybody needed to hear, and fortunately it was all captured in a mic'd up moment that ESPN could clip and blast out there to everyone.
And then they decided to chase the dragon. Then it was time to mic up every single coach, and capture every single mound visit during the Little League World Series in hopes of getting another moment like that. And now every little league coach views each mound visit like an audition. They know they're being watched, and they want to be the guy who delivers that next great message.
Brother,,,,you don't need to be giving a sermon to a bunch of 12-year-olds in the middle of a 1-run game. We can't be doing scripture study in this spot. Tell the kid a joke, tell him you know he has the stuff to get them out of this jam, and that the offense will pick him up even if he gives up a run or two. But instead, buddy decided it was time to become the next Joel Osteen out there. And then probably pretend that "oh, you guys heard all that? Shoot, I totally forgot I was even mic'd up out there". Let's just go ahead and cut the mic's for a bit so these kids can stop having to listen to pre-written monologues while they're mind is in a blender on the mound.
