'House Of The Dragon' Season 3 Was EXCELLENT, Even Though Rhaenyra Sucks So Fucking Much
SPOILERS AHEAD, but man. The morons who abandoned this show after Season Two must be feeling really fucking stupid right now.
"Oh, I'm out on 'House of the Dragon.' The end of Season Two was nothing but setup!" Yeah, it was setup for THIS, you imbeciles! I feel like Aegon when he slapped his brother across the face last night.
No joke, I've watched that clip a good twenty times today. It's just too damn funny. I might wind up using it more than I've used the beggars clip from Pattinson in 'The Odyssey'. Regardless, we've been blessed with two phenomenal vocal stims in a matter of weeks. Let's not take this for granted, folks.
I'd say Aegon reuniting with Sunfyre is probably the best moment of this season. It's definitely the most pivotal; only Jace's death in the premiere could top it. The news of Aegon returning with his dragon has flipped Westeros completely on its head, and it sets up an awesome subplot of Aegon reuniting with Aemond to reclaim the throne. And I won't lie, I'm actually rooting hard for Aegon in that mess.
Thank goodness we're getting Aemond the fuck out of Harrenhal, by the way. Him and Daemon were the two best characters in the show, in my opinion, but both of them have wasted so much time in that godforsaken place. That was really my only gripe with Season 3. And the fact that my boy Criston Cole gets murked out of nowhere and no one gives a shit in the slightest. He's totally forgotten about.
I know a lot of people hated the lad, but the guy scores! He hooked up with Rhaenyra. He hooked up with Alicent. You gotta give him credit! He was like the Nicky Smokes of the Red Keep, and I thought he was a major character in the first two seasons of this show, but he was just thrown to the wayside this year. Oh well.
But on the flip side, the one person who shined this season was undoubtedly Ormund Hightower. The actor who played him, James Norton, was absolutely brilliant. No one will ever be as cruel or twisted as Ramsay Bolton, but I saw a lot of parallels between him and Ormund in this season. I was captivated by that character every time he was on screen. And what a way for him to go out. Good lord.

If Ormund was the MVP of this season, Rhaenyra is the LVP. Without question. I've hated her for years, and now people are finally starting to realize what I've been saying all along. She sucks, man. When she's not crying and wallowing in her own self-pity, she's busy being a hypocritical, backstabbing tyrant. Now she's killing High Septons just because they rightfully refuse to acknowledge her as queen. She also hooked up with her advisor and then sent her packing immediately after. She's like the Nicky Smokes of The Red Keep. Just despicable, ugly behavior.
I'm very excited to see her reign crumble in the following seasons. The Dance of Dragons is fully here, and no one is coming out unscathed.
There is so much to look forward to for the rest of this series, and it's because Season 3 did an incredible job of balancing moments that gave us payoff and moments that gave us setup. And between those moments was some fantastic character work that was executed thanks to some fantastic writing. It felt like OG Thrones. This series is back to being fucking dynamite.
And the "fans" who just like to hate on this show for no reason at all can suck it.
