There Was No Better Play In Sports Over The Weekend Than This Goal Line Stand On The Last Play Of The Game To Win An Arena Football Championship
My apologies to Arena Football One and Coach Gruden because this was an awesome ending. I say Coach Gruden because the man was all over it
Now, look, I don't care what league you're watching a goal line stand with the title on the line and zeroes on the clock is the ultimate football win. I think that's more satisfying than a walk off touchdown and easily more than a field goal. I think you could make a case that a blocked field goal to win is up there because it feels so rare. But there's something old school about a goal line stand that just draws me in. Maybe there's something with the fact that every rule seems to benefit the offense.
Between this and the Hall of Fame Game, it has me itching for regular season football. I don't care if it's high school, college or NFL at this point. It's given me the itch to watch a game that matters. It makes me want to dream of the Super Bowl ending this way again. Of all the Arena Football I've watched this is easily the wildest game I can remember.
I'm trying to think of most exciting football plays and the moments within it. I do think the leap to the goal line and meeting there might be 1. It's that, the Hail Mary at the end of the game hanging in the air, a flea flicker and then when a kick return starts to open up. Those do it for me and we get it here. So shout out the Nashville Kats. Champions of Arena Football One and my official best play of the weekend.
